Malaysia: Controversy on to make marriage of 11 year old girl to 41 year old person


In Malaysia, the 11-year-old girl was married to a 41-year-old man after which there has been a fierce controversy.

After this fact, the demand for minimum age of marriage in Malaysia for 18 years has taken hold.

This child is from Thailand. His parents say that he has asked his daughter to marry her daughter only after asking him. He also said that till the age of 16, the child will remain with them.

The Malaysian government says that she does not know anything about this marriage in Thailand and it is being investigated.

UNICEF, a UN organization working for children, has described this marriage as “shocking and unacceptable”.

Malaysian representative Mariane Clark in UNICEF said, “It is not in the child’s interest.”

There are some pictures in the media where the groom can be seen holding the hand of the girl after marriage.

According to local media reports, the person already has two wives and six children, his children are from five to 18 years of age.

Malaysian workers say that the groom is a rich businessman while the girl’s parents are poor.

The minimum age of marriage in Malaysia is 18 years but Sharia courts can also approve the marriage of Muslims under the age of 16 years.

The Malaysian government denied any information about this marriage.

The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development in Malaysia has said, “If this marriage has been approved without any religious court, then it can be termed as illegal and the groom can be punished for six months.”

Malaysian activist Azmi Al Habshi told the news agency AFP: “Getting married to a 11-year-old girl is like a pedophile.

Workers say that about 16,000 girls were married in Malaysia at the age of 15 years.

Last year a law was passed in Malaysia in which sexual activities with children were termed as a crime. Although child marriage is still not a crime in Malaysian law.

Interestingly, last week, in the country’s capital, Kuala Lumpur, a conference was organized in the name of “Girls Not Brides” whose theme was the soul of child marriage.
