Press Review: Passport Officer transfer for advising on change of religion


A Muslim youth was asked to adopt Hinduism in the passport service center to renew his passport in Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow.

This news has given importance to the Times of India, Indian Express. Newspapers write that a woman named Tanvi Seth reached her passport service center to renew her passport with her husband Anas Siddiqui.

Tanvi alleges that a passport officer there had been abused with him and he also shouted at her husband Anas. The officer told Anas that if he has to renew the passport, then adopt Hindu religion.

Tanvi says that despite all the paperwork being completed, it was treated like this. He said that he is very hurt by this discrimination on the basis of religion with his and her husband.

Tanvi tweeted Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and tweeted it.

Following the news in the media, the passport officer allegedly misbehaving has been transferred and the passport has been issued to the couple.

In the case, the passport officer Vikas Mishra has also issued a show-cause notice to the department.

Talking to the media, another passport official said that all the reports related to the incident will be sent to the ministry and the ministry will take whatever action it has to take against the concerned officer.
