Police claimed to have killed 14 Maoists in an encounter in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, situated in Chhattisgarh border.
The police have not ruled out any more Maoists being killed.
Special police inspector general of the anti-Naxalite Sharad Shelar in Nagpur told , “So far we have heard the news of the death of 14 Maoists. This whole incident has been executed by the C-60 team of our security forces.”
According to the police, a team of security forces had gone on a search operation in the Targaon forests of Bhamragarh area, where they were encountering with the Maoists on Sunday morning.
The encounter lasted for several hours and after the encounter, the police have recovered the bodies of 13 Maoists from the spot.
Police have speculated about blood samples found at the site of the encounter that some Maoists may have died in this encounter. The search operation in the area has been intensified.
There are reports of the death of two big Maoist commanders Sainath and Shinu in the encounter but police have not confirmed this yet.
The police are treating it as a big success, because after the many years in Gadchiroli, such a large number of Maoists have been killed.
Apart from this, information about the encounter between the security forces and the Maoists is also being reported in Sukma of Chhattisgarh, but no confirmation has been reached yet.
